this morning, corduroy licorice found himself over a barrel. of all the barrel girls, suzie was the cutest. although she had broken corduroy's heart in the spring, today he woke up and realized he had fully recovered.

supermodels in space?

from cnn.com:
"moscow (reuters) -- supermodel cindy crawford said thursday she was considering taking a multi-million dollar trip into space with russian cosmonauts.

'i would go if i could be there and back in a week,' crawford told reporters during a visit to the russian capital.

'if they invite me, maybe, i don't know, said the 36-year-old u.s. model, whose personal fortune has been estimated at more than $30 million."

i think it was bit outlandish for the russian government to expect more than a week from a space-bound supermodel. i mean, her roots would start showing if she was in orbit too long. also, science still hasn't proven if botox works outside our atmosphere.

evidently, the civilian training program alone takes six months. maybe cindy can leverage that into another workout video and kill two birds.*

*i'm suddenly very fond of clipped clichs...where the person speaking/writing knows that the phrase they are using is so familiar, they don't even have to waste their breath/keystrokes finishing it. i first noticed it with janeane garofalo saying, "the whole nine" a couple of times during one of her stand-up routines.

i just read another phrase like that in steve martin's shopgirl book, although i can't remember it right now. darn.

that's an interesting novella, by the way. a-d-d-chick generously loaned it to me and i enjoyed it. however, it's very slight and very stoically written. it gives me the impression that steve martin is a bit of a cold fish emotionally. i find it hard to believe that this book came from the man who brought us the hilarious and warm-hearted movies the jerk and the man with two brains, but i guess maybe he's "matured."

my favorite part of the book was when he related the attraction between two people in scientific terms, such as the movement of electrons. that was quite evocative and reminded me of one of my favorite books: on love by alain de botton. he also observes love through a methodical, scientific microscope, but with more depth and heart than steve-a-roo.

here's my new favorite site: french kitty's world. the store section features my "kitty on a moped" tee and lots of other things to drizzle away my paycheck upon.

if you know of anyone more fabulous than ms. french kitty, color me thunderstruck.

tonight i'm going to hit the coinstar machine at the grocery store. it's this green box into which you dump your collected pocket change to clickety clack clink into a sorter dealie in exchange for a slip of paper that tells you how much cash you can trade in for food stuffs or cash out.

oh sure, the coinstar people skim some of the dough off the top, but it's some kinda thrill to watch all those pennies and nickels (my least favorite coin...it resembles like a quarter, but it's so not) add up to serious dead presidents. it's like a slot machine that's a guaranteed jackpot, every time! i think this evening's haul may garner me upwards of thirty dollars.

if there's any rush that compares to turning loose change into solid food, color me thunderstruck.
