when he was going through the auto recycler, corduroy licorice circled the wagons. he had always preferred wood paneled, multi-passenger vehicles.

i saw one of the worst movies ever last night. my big fat greek suckage...i mean wedding. even though i like romantic comedies, when this film first came out something told me not to see it. then a few people said it was cute and it started making sleeper hit box office and getting lots of press and i thought maybe i might be missing out on something. i wasn't.

it was one of the most poorly acted and written films i've ever seen. plus, it committed the heinous sin of rushing a romance with no substantiating evidence as to why these two have fallen in love--not even providing the minimum of a freakin' montage sequence of happy dates and ensuing hijinks. that's an offense that especially chaps my hide, although it's all too common in film.

mbfgw was all lame slapstick, lame accents and lame overacting everywhere you looked. it actually made me long for the matrimonial-themed mediocrity of monsoon wedding. at least that movie had a couple of great dance sequences. about the time 30 flailing female family members were chasing the bride to be with a cover-up make-up stick to disguise her wedding morning pimple, i discreetly excused myself from the theater.

mbfgw was based on a one-woman show that tom hanks' wife rita wilson championed and helped bring to the silver screen. it was sweet that they let the originating actress star and write the film version, but her inexperience was as glaringly obvious as her nuptial zit. tom, if you really love your wife as much as you say in those acceptance speeches...please don't let her make another painfully bad movie like this ever, ever again.

in happier news, the new beck album called sea change is moodily amazing. i've become semi-obsessed with the first single "lost cause." sad soul beck makes beautiful music throughout, truly wearing his heart on his sleeve. he even sounds nick drake-esque on "round the bend," which can only be a good thing. the album has a similar somber beauty to beck's "mutations"--my favorite album of his. both were produced by the supremely talented nigel goodrich. in summary, bless beck and his broken heart.

speaking of matters of the heart, dirtnerdluv's tribute to the apple of his eye is a delight.
