corduroy licorice considered a penny saved a penny earned. however, when he told his mom he wanted to save pennies for a living, you can bet she put in her two cents' worth.

so my homie and i were having an e-mail discussion about getting to know possible love interests online. how you could feel "clicking" or sparks with someone via e-mail without knowing the "real" them. we were also lamenting the fact that not many guys will court a girl anymore. an alarming number of them just want to "hang out" and split bills and not commit. so, we now join nictate and tippi in mid e-mail...

nictate: yeah, i agree about the old-fashioned courting. it's so rare nowadays. that whole sexual revolution and equal rights thing did kinda screw up the chivalry aspect of dating. hopefully we can find good gents for ourselves...men who jane austen would approve of.

tippi: yeah, this whole clicking thing is really a strange phenomena in email. i mean, it's cool, but i'm not so sure it means anything at this point, yaknow? like with meghan. (i keep referring to her, have you finished the book?) she totally clicked with pfslider but when she actually met him, it was not the same. so weird how that works. i still don't know, i think most of the time, the person on the other end of the cable is so cool because they are someone in our head that we want them to be. you know, like we fill in the blanks of who they are with what WE want or wish for and not exactly what reality is. and yes, i kind of mourn over this whole sexual revolution. where are our mr. darcy's???? sigh. the ongoing quest. but i do like your statement "men who jane austen would approve of"! so true. so true.

nictate: yeah, where is mr. darcy?! what a hunk of a fine man he was! or sir robert from "the winslow boy." maybe we need us some brits! maybe we need us some 19th century brits! that's funny what you said about how we fill in the blanks on our e-relationships! a guy friend of mine said the EXACT same thing last week. he said be careful not to fill in the blanks too much or when you meet, you'll be disappointed. then he offered an example: "what about the part where you liked ponies?" haha!

tippi: that part about the ponies is hilarious! heeheeha. but really, it's so true, though! i mean we tend to fill in the blanks on people anyways... even face to face people! it's natural that it would happen on email. even more so really. oh, i forgot about sir robert! sigh. maybe i should visit england soon. pick me up a 19th century brit gentleman! man, if only i could order him online.
