corduroy licorice was like a bull in a china shop. especially the day of halloween 1998 when he dressed in a bull costume and went into a store that sold fine dinnerware. "toro! toro!" the saleslady screamed, then fainted.

work was better today. i had a few interludes of quiet. i realized how much i need little breaks here and there, no matter how brief. my mind has to downshift occasionally to run smoothly. i still have a little uneasy feeling it's the quiet before the storm, but i'll take the quiet when i can get it.

today i had lunch with my boss. it was his idea. i usually eat lunch alone because it's one of those peaceful moments in the day i seem to need. when he asked me to join him, i got worried. did he need to have a big talk with me? what, is it my tardiness? gulp! here i was ready to sneak out alone and now i had to be on my best behavior! i was a bit nervous about it all, but it ended up being really nice. (no lecture, just lunch!) we brought food back and ate at the walton's family table at work with a few other co-workers. at one point i was talking about a semi-famous composer who was the relative of someone at work. i described him as "a composer of note," then came to a sudden realization of what i had just said and burst out with a spastic "baha! pun!" to the merriment of those about me. ok, i suddenly am channeling jane austen.

anyhow, it made me realize once again that socializing during lunch can be just as refreshing as the hermit route. one day i'll learn.

the weakerthans are going to be playing in l.a. in may! holy toledo and woohoo!

a month or so ago, i wrote to their info@ e-mail address and asked them to play l.a. the note i got back said, "ok. see ya in may." that was easy!
