so, the oscars! i don't know how gladiator won, but then again, in a world where george w. bush can win, all bets are off. we're through the looking-glass here, people. (two extra points for anyone who can attribute that quote.)

yay for julia, who did a charming acceptance speech with one of her trademark chortles. she really did do a splendid job in erin brokovich.

yay for del toro boy, who my friend p-girl aptly noticed gives dark circles under the eyes a good name. owooooo! plus, his performance in traffic was superb. ever since the usual suspects, i knew that boy had what faye dunaway calls "the shine."

yay for steven soderbergh who gave a cool speech thanking everyone who creates. he's right, a world without art would be an awful place to be. and yay to him for directing two of the year's best films. all of his films i've seen are remarkable, from one of my all-time favorites, sex, lies and videotape, to king of the hill.

steve martin did a decent job, especially his line after complimenting tom hanks for his successful marriage, "...something tough to pull off in hollywood since we sleep with so many people." bahaha!
