this last weekend was heccos, man, but in a good way.

karaoke was performed. let me just say you haven't lived until you've witnessed the b-52s' "love shack" being performed by the fantastic four, including yours unruly. tin roof! rusted!

saturday i got to hang out with a former boss/always friend who i discovered is expecting a papoose. this girl makes me laugh like no other. her baby's gonna have a blast growing up with her.

sat. night was a birthday dinner for my precious friend karina. her husband organized a group of us numbering about 20 and we ate a great supper in a private banquet room at an old-school french restaurant. the set-up of the room and the table resembled a gathering for a corporate function. well, that and a microphone is all the host needed for inspiration. during our munching, he grabbed the mic and began to pretend that he was the president of a corporation and we were his employees chowing down on the company tab.

"i'd like to thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate the great success of our internet corporation. i see big thing happening for us. it's all about teamwork, you know, and we can make it happen! i also wanted to announce that i'll be having a party after this in my room at the hyatt, where there'll be blow and call girls for anyone whose interested. thanks!"

soon, five or so other party guests were playing along, stepping up to the mic with such gems as:

"hi. i'm jackie from human resources. i just wanted everyone to give a big round of applause to karina...our top saleswoman in the third quarter, bringing in $2.3 million!"

late arrivers were announced as regional team members who had been delayed by a blizzard at their home office in wichita. it was hilarious. i was sweating over my rosemary chicken, trying to think of something funny to say. no luck. i made up for it later by serenading the birthday girl with an unfortunately somewhat off-key version of the "mary tyler moore show" theme song. i felt that number was appropriate because that karina really can turn the world on with her smile. it was fun to feel the love in the room. she deserves every bit of it. and more.

sunday marked a swap meet visit with my sister. i scored a jetsons-esque, retro magazine rack. it's so cool-looking and orbital, it'd be a shame to blemish it by actually putting magazines on it. heh. oh, well!

that night i went to the los angeles landmark roscoe's chicken and waffles for dinner for the first time. it was good...especially the gravy! mmmmyeah! then improv class where i got an aerobic workout from laughing at my classmates as they did fake 911 freak-out calls about minor problems...like running out of bubble bath or gaining three pounds. hijinks ensued, no doubt.

hee hee hee.
