hiya. since it's 4:11 a.m. as i write this, and since i just woke up after falling asleep in my clothes in front of the tv after having said the infamous last words "i'll just take a little break and rest my eyes" only to awaken with the tv blaring a re-run of "coach" (sorry, neighbors...you hate me, don't you?) and my contacts having formed an occlusive seal with my eyeballs, i will make this brief.

i recently read the juliette lewis interview by chuck palahniuk in the fall 2000 issue of black book magazine. besides once again coming to the conclusion that juliette is an odd little chickadee (partly why she's a good actress, i betcha), i discovered a girlboy list she had written. ah, it's not your usual type. this list is one she came up with to find out more about a boy who was a'courtin' her once. it is made up of questions i found quite...intriguing! i hope the same applies to you.

first off, though, the explanation from her mom about how she came up with her daughter's name on the day she was born: "...and it's the first light of morning, and the doves are cooing, and up [until] then i hadn't known what her name was...juliette! i decided to spell it the french way because the tragedy sucks."

i think that explains a lot more than just where her name comes from! ahem.

anyway...onto juliette's list. here is her introduction to it: "one time i wanted to get to know someone better by writing down questions for him. these questions are more telling about me than anything i could write in a diary."

did you ever stab someone or cut them intentionally with a sharp object?

do you like asparagus?

do you have a middle name?

do cats frustrate you as pets or do you admire their independence?

did you ever break a guy's nose?

would you say you've won more fights than you've lost?

do you look more like your mother or father?

did you date an older woman who you'd consider an older woman, and what did she teach you?

what's the first image you have of the female body?

does the respect factor drop when a woman has breast implants?

did you go to sleep-away summer camp? (because some of my greatest childhood memories are from summer camp.)

do you like roller coasters?

what do you imagine happens to someone after their body dies? and do you believe that you are a spirit with a body or just a brain?

how do you explain mozart writing symphonies at seven? (because i think that's a prime example of creative ability being spirit-generated.)

did the female anatomy ever mystify and scare you? (because it did me and i'm the owner.)

was there a time when you were mystified by the workings of your penis?

have you ever been caught in a natural disaster?

did you ever own birkenstocks?

what was your favorite expression growing up, or what was it closer to...that's so fresh, that's so bitchin', that's so wicked, that's so rad, or that's so hot.

did you ever fall in love with an animal in a way where you wished you could talk, like be human friends? (because i would fall in love with my cats and wish that we were the same species so we could relate.)

do you feel that we are all potentially christlike?

do you have hope for humanity? and if not, how can you honestly keep going on in the face of hopelessness?

after reading her list in the interview, juliette offered, "there are no right answers to these."

here's another question for you, have you read girlboy today? if not, please stop by to see what heather has to say about the boy who she'd like to be with from dusk 'til dawn...
