are you ready to ROCK?!

besides going to hear friends' bands play, i hadn't seen a "concert" concert since...i don't even remember how long.

then last week a co-worker got sick and had to give up his bangles tickets for a show at the house of blues. i've always liked the bangles. their hit songs are chock-full of pop goodness and harmonic convergence. i especially dig their first album "all over the place." so many good tunes--one right after the other, like mouth-watering sugar discs on a candy necklace. the show was fun! the girls looked great. the crowd was mostly over 30. britney and christina don't need to break a sweat...yet.

so now, the whole rain/pours theory kicks in. saturday a.m. i'm waking up bright and early to go stand in line for radiohead tickets. i haven't woken up early to stand in line for tickets since...i don't even remember how long. it's a pain in the butt, but kinda fun. kinda high school. standing in line with all these people who love the same band you do. hoping the scalpers don't drain the coffers before you even see the cash register. getting PUMPED. dude!

then next week i get to go see travis...a few weeks later, foo fighters. color me hacited! three of my favorite bands within 30 days of one another. let the drooling and dancing in the aisle begin! (and dangerous mix of activities! someone's gonna sliiiiip! ahhhhhhh! ok, i'm back. i was over there on the sillyland express for a momento.)

ya ever notice how you will cross paths with a certain song that pushes all your buttons at that exact moment of your existence? that seems to sum up your life-already-in-progress with tailor-made resonance and melodic empathy?

lately i have been focusing my aural efforts on two albums: madonna's new one and travis' old one.

if you care for madonna at all, i think you'll dig this album "music." it's really habit-forming. a bit dance-y for some, perhaps, but good, old-fashioned get-that-butt-bopping-and-mouth-hummin' fun from our golden girl. some good slow songs, too. plus, i love the frosted make-up cowboy look she's got going on. a feast for the eyes and the ears.

but, ah yes, the song that is washing over me like so much almond-scented-lather--o, that sounds nice. i wonder where i could score me some almond-scented shampoo?--is travis' first album: good feeling.

it is well-named. the last few days i've been belting out "all i want to do is rock" at the top of my lungs. just doing the warm-up routine in preparation of shaking my moneymaker at their show, you know. just doing the good fan thing. while their "the man who" album is like listening to radiohead, jr.--which is meant as a compliment--this previous CD is a bit more rough 'n' tumble fun. and it has the distinction of harboring the song of the moment for moi. a song that has inspired me to "turn it up to eleven" and to hit "rewind" the second it ends to hear it again. then i shake my head, all rock-star like, and wiggle in my seat and let the pulsing beat bounce about my car's cabin like a horny drive-in date. the song that does all that?

"the line is fine"

kick-ass, guitar-laden, pop-anthemy, this-is-what-rock-is-all-about wonderfulness.

the lyrics that are clicking with my roller coaster track?

look at me i'm so disgusting

i will never find another

quite like you

you make me blue

with the things you do

look at you you're so familiar

we could be so cool together

all the time

could all be fine

we're on the line

the line is fine

open up ma window

the line is fine

standing on the ledge

well i don't look down

looking at the people

well they all look fine

it's not just life or death

yesterday we talked together

but tonight its just the weather

chillin' me

what's the point in silly talking

we could get there quicker walking

down the line

could all be fine

but we're on the line

the line is fine

but staring at their faces

standing in a row

think of all the places

that they have yet to go

they don't know

yay, travis! see ya next week, mates! you rock'n'rule! oh yeah, and thanks for bottling the essence of my current experience in a close-to-orgasmic-perfection, three-minute song! i love it when that happens! so nice to have my own personal soundtrack. heh. now if i could just score...badumbump *rim shot*

well, what do you know. a certain ms. dezine has designs on finding her perfect fella over at girlboy...
