friday *fun* *fun* *fun* with quotes!!!!!

(these are actual quotes heard in my day-to-day life. this week, even.)

"i get a kickama out of jicama."

"did you just grab my ass?"

"i just got a big, fat nostril-full of old lady perfume."

but seriously, folks...

you know, yesterday i received a revelation in the mail. it was taped up in a brown corrugated box. the postmark said alabama. when one anticipates revelations (but can one, by definition, really anticipate a revelation?) one doesn't expect it to originate from the unassuming state of al. state of al. hee hee. that sounds like a sitcom exploring the hijinx of a u.s. vice president. so enough with the tangents! my revelation came from alabama in the form of a couple dozen, crisp and delicious, homemade no less, chocolate chip cookies.

you see, a few weeks back, the darling boy wonder rhetoric made an offer in one of his entries to send free cookies to whoever wrote to him. now don't get all excited and clog his in-box, you late adopters, you. the boy is busy with school. plus, i want to feel special. pffft. so a bit back in the day, with a bit of encouragement, i took him up on his kind offer...term papers and art assignments be damned. and he delivered. boy, did he! those cookies were delicious, just as he had promised. and he even enclosed a clever handwritten note which sits on my desk and makes me grin every time it catches my eye. let's just say that the clever handwritten note is a dying art.

to say the least, i was knocked on my keester by the kindness...and by the sweet cookie goodness. i even got some milk to celebrate.

so, then...onto the revelation! as i was munching my cookies and reading my note, i realized something quite eye-opening. i realized that this sweet internet pal o' mine, who i've only been pen pals with for a short time and have never met, performed a gesture that out-thoughtfulled almost every boyfriend i've ever had. the only thing i could think of that compared was the easter basket shoe box that desert storm gave me. i loved that, too.

oh sure, i was given gifts by ex-boys on special occassions. some even sent roses. all those things were appreciated and found to be delightful, of course. but there was something missing, i've just noted. something small and sweet and symbolic. i'd love a dozen homemade cookies anyday over a dozen roses. think of the time it took to get the ingredients, mix them, bake them and hike to the post office to send them. plus, the note. i keep coming back to that note.

the second part of the realization is that i would like a boy who would mail me something he made just for me. that is going to be an addendum to my "i would like a boy..." list. whatever it is in a boy that inspires such a romantic gesture, even between friends, is something that i would like in my boy...whoever he may be.

the old saying is that simple pleasures are best. i heart-ily agree. speaking of which, be sure to read about a little box with a red lid. you'll be glad you did.

p.s. hey kids, it's national rhetoric day! today's "i would like a girl" list features a lovely submission from him
